Program Notes

In Divertimento for Orchestra, the timpani drives the ensemble forward through shifting meters and textures, punctuated by brass interjections over intricate woodwind and string flourishes, to a powerful conclusion.

Originally the fourth movement of my Symphony No.3 in E Minor: Concert in Three Acts, Divertimento grew from my conviction that invigorating and uplifting new compositions can help contemporary classical music engage a wider audience. I excerpted and adapted Divertimento to display the orchestra’s rich color palette while reducing the original work's instrumentation to make it available to more ensembles.
