Fractured Lens explores the expressive possibilities of the solo viola, examining the unique emotive potential of the instrument across a variety of contrasting settings.

Strident chords punctuate the delicate, introspective melodies of the chromatic introduction. The driving force of the Agitato ritmico section, propelled by energetic motivic fragments and a constant pulse, taps the soloist’s technical skill to navigate angular, compound melodies woven throughout the entire range of the instrument. Introductory melodies return intensified in the third section before giving way to an ethereal conclusion.
